After setting up and getting some sleep, race day started with a 9am qualifying for the Allcomers Race, (a mixed class grid of some really nice cars), with myself qualifying 10th overall (3rd in class) and Kat 13th, (6th in class).
C1 qualifying saw us 11th and 16th, unfortunately Kat had a big accident at Hall Bends and hit the tyre wall hard, causing the biggest damage to her car to date, and sending Kat to be checked out herself.
When we saw the car on the recovery truck, (thanks Matt), I figured her day was done, we didnβt have all the parts to fix it.
The guys from Edinburgh College came over to let me know Kat was ok and out of the car, and to offer any help we might need with the damage.
As someone who knows nothing mechanically, the next hr or so was impressive to watch, as the Edinburgh College guys and gals, βEdina Ecosse Racingβ, stopped working on their own cars, and with our mechanics Bishop Sport Racing, tore into Kats car in an attempt to get her back out for the next race. Using the spares we had and Edinburgh College supplying the rest, the car was passed fit to race, and so was Kat.
As Kat got her confidence back in race 1, I on the other hand decided to try to see how brave I was into Goose Neck, ending my race on the 1st lap, running onto the grass, hitting the barrier, luckily with nothing more than minor bumper damage, a damaged wheel and a puncture, and luckily parking right next to a spectator, Mike Premier Paintworx who paints the cars π.
Race 2 saw Kat finish 16th and myself 14th and trying to get my confidence back for the last race.
The Allcomers race was awesome, I lined up 10th, and Kat 13th. I had a great race trying to catch Ross, and Colin in the C1βs in front, while letting the other classes through. I had made a good gap to the next C1 behind when a safety car towards the end saw me have to make the gap again to keep my place. I finished where I started 3rd in class and 10th overall, with Kat finishing 14th and 6th in class.
Overall an epic days racing, with some truly great people, (despite the damage to the cars. They will be repaired and onto the next round).
Thanks to Martin Marv Bishop, and Heather and Aziz for keeping my car on point. A huge thanks to everyone at Edinburgh College, (Edina Ecosse Racing), for dropping everything to come and help get Kat back out, and supplying all the spares we didnβt have. Thanks to All those that came to see us and support us, and thanks to Alive Tuning and Louth Tyre Services Ltd, for their support, and to the SMRC and Cadwell for putting on a race close to our house ππ
Also canβt finish this post without a massive round of applause to the Orange Army, and recovery staff. You guys make racing possible. Thank You.
